The latest data from World Health Organization’s Member States to 22 June 2022, 3413 confirmed cases and one death 
have been reported to WHO from 50 countries/territories. Monkeypox infection is a rare disease, but not new.

Transmission of the virus is not easy to do, so when people are infectious they are showing signs and symptoms and 
person to person transmission involves contact with body fluids including saliva. 

 Monkeypox is a rare viral disease that is similar to smallpox. It is caused by the monkeypox virus, which is thought to be carried by rodents and bats. The symptoms of monkeypox include fever, headache, muscle aches, and rash. The illness usually lasts 2-3 weeks, and there is no specific treatment for it. Monkeypox can be fatal in some cases. Travelers should take steps to protect themselves against this disease while travelling to areas where it is endemic.
